A Thousand Hyphae in the Air draws inspiration from a reimagining of an archaic myth that tells the birth of Ifa, a creature born from the union between two women. Lacking a skeleton, her body, supported by a tangle of fungal filaments and feathers, is capable of assuming any shape and traversing the air and subsoil, uniting what we often perceive as separate, between decaying matter and matter in rebirth. On the one hand, the mycelium, growing underground and weaving invisible connections between different organisms, becomes a metaphor for a collective memory, an underground archive that nourishes and regenerates; on the other, the feathers represent extension, transformation and the drive toward becoming-other.
Myth and reality overlap in a hybrid narrative in which identity categories dissolve, opening up new forms of kinship and interspecies alliance. Through the exploration of queer ecology, a heteronormative vision of nature is abandoned, and the distinction between human, animal, plant and non-living dissolves into a shared symbiotic language made of multifaceted and metamorphic matter. In this space of fluid coexistence, every boundary becomes a point of contact through a pulsating network of constantly regenerating kinship. A thousand hyphae, a thousand trajectories of relationships between seemingly distinct yet profoundly interconnected worlds.
